I ♥ George because…

IT IS BEST KNOWN FOR its beautiful Outeniqua mountain range, famous golf courses and nearby beaches. It’s the centre of the Garden Route. It has a great moderate temperate.

GET YOUR PICTURE TAKEN AT Dolphin Point at Kaaimans,  best beach -Victoria Bay, Famous Map of Africa and at the Shipwreck in Glentana!

THE BEST scenic PICTURES CAN BE TAKEN FROM the Power Van. Here you can see 4 passes and enjoy stunning mountain views. Wonderful views overlooking George.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S GOOD, I LIKE TO go hiking at Wilderness beach,  go swimming at Victoria Bay (best for surfing)! & canoeing on the Touw river or Kaaimans.  I enjoy taking a drive to Mossel Bay for lunch @SeaGypsy overlooking the sea.

WHEN THE WEATHER’S BAD, I LIKE TO visit all the Churches,  take in a movie at the Garden Route Mall or visit the Railway Museum with its collection of old trains and vintage cars.

I THINK THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO VISIT IS from Feb to April during the Summer months.

MY FAVOURITE BREAKFAST SPOT IS Acorn Guest House of course!! @Acorn we also cater for special events!

FOR LUNCH, I SUGGEST  La Rosa Blu Cafe at Rosenhof, BayleafCafe @George,  Cocomo’s or Salina’s overlooking the sea @Wilderness.

MY FAVOURITE RESTAURANT IS The Old Townhouse for wonderful South African dishes and home-made Ice cream, The Grumpy Griller – Best steak in George! 101 on Meade for fine dining, The Kingfisher for fish and sushi and La Locanda for good Italian food.

FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN TRY Cactus in Courtney street, or Bravo Lounge in Mossel Bay.

IF YOU WANT TO MEET LOCALS, GO and play some golf and have a drink in the club house at @George Golf Club or Bowling Clubs.

George’s BEST KEPT SECRET IS its beautiful mountain passes, moderate climate and friendly people!

FOR SOME CULTURE, I LIKE TO GO TO The Arts Theatre in York Street.

TO RELAX AND RESTORE MY SOUL, I LIKE TO kayak up the Touw River, (Canoes for hire from Eden Adventures) or simply go for a sundowner @Fancourt overlooking the magnificent golf courses.

IF YOU’RE FEELING ADVENTUROUS, TRY paragliding at the Map of Africa View site, Abseiling at Kaaimans with Eden Adventures or Shark Cage Diving with Shark Africa in Mossel Bay.

MY FAVOURITE WALK IS the Giant Kingfisher Trail starting at Ebb and Flow in Wilderness, however I love the Robberg, do this hike with Mark Dixon, also if you find yourself in George when its full moon & low-tide do not miss the Moonlight Meader with Judy or Mark Dixon (mom & son)

MY FAVOURITE DRIVE, well of got 5 in no particular order!! Driving up the Montagu Pass between George and the little village of Herald.  The seven passes between George and Wilderness, the Swartberg pass in Oudtshoorn towards Prince Albert, Meiringspoort is a Must, just outside of De Rust and last but not least, my MOST favourite, obviously the Outeniqua Pass!

MY FAVOURITE bird WATCHING SPOT IS @Wilderness, all the hikes offers great birding! My favourite bird, will always be the Knysna Loerie with its bright colours.

MY FAVOURITE MARKET(S) IS The Milkwood Village Market in Wilderness every Friday evening for local art and music.  The Outeniqua Farmers Market in George and the popular Wild Oats Market in Sedgefield a.k.a the slow town.

MY FAVOURITE BUILDINGS ARE St Marks Anglican Church in York Street and the Dutch Reformed Mother Church in Courtenay Road, BOTH FOR THEIR historical beauty.

TRAVELLING WITH CHILDREN? A FUN OUTING IS to visit Victoria Bay, safest swim beach. The Strawberry Farm at Blanco where they can play in the children’s playground while the parents have scones with local strawberry jam. Here you can pick your own strawberries.  A must on a Saturday is to do the 5km parkrun @ the Botanical Gardens,  or go for some bowling.

WHEN MONEY’S NO OBJECT, I LIKE TO spoil myself with a day at Zenith Spa, enjoy a cat walk at Botlierskop or visit the Ellies at The Knysna Elephant Park.

THE MOST UNUSUAL THING I SEE HERE IS 3 donkeys and a wagon that collects recycling..what an clever idea, recycling at its best!

MY FAVOURITE WEEKEND GETAWAY IS heading towards the Tsitsikamma, visiting Stormsriver & the National Park. The drive there is very scenic!

WHAT ACORN WANTS TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY,  We offer daily Breakfast for Cansa George – All donations to Cansa,

I Love George BECAUSE it’s very clean, well kept city, so central only 15-60 min drive away any attractions & interesting towns like Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay.
